Taiwan thanks Japan for concern over recent torrential rain

President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim appreciate concern shown by Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba over the effects of recent torrential rain in Taiwan. (MOFA)

President Lai Ching-te emphasized that reconstruction was the priority and stated that disaster resilience would be further strengthened as he anticipated ever-closer cooperation with Japan Aug. 5 in Taipei City.
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Lai made the remarks on social media platform X in response to a post by Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who expressed concern for the damage caused by recent torrential rain in central and southern Taiwan and hoped that residents could return to their normal life routine as soon as possible.
 
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim also conveyed thanks to Ishiba Aug. 5 on X, where she praised the reciprocal assistance between Japan and Taiwan following devastating events. Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung anticipated even closer ties with Japan to jointly address various challenges. (POC-E)
